No Snow Quilt Retreat...

Danny was so kind as to let me go to a quilt retreat for 3 days! I had so much fun! I actually got to sneak up to Haines Junction early on Thursday afternoon. Danny ended up taking the kids to Juneau to buy a new boat and the ferry left Thursday afternoon. There was also a storm headed our way and there was to be snow in Haines Junction on Friday... so 2 reasons I got there early. I got 3 tops done and several other small projects done. We did some snow dying... neat! I'll have to get some dye and fabric and give it a try... I was also greatly inspired for the rest of this winter! Here is a smattering of some of the projects completed that weekend...
I started this top about 5 yrs ago...

This was completely covered by Sunday morning..

a bow tie for Carson .. and part of his Kitty Quilt..

Carson's kitty quilt with mitered borders..

Aubrey's horses... appliqued circles... super easy and quick!

And that is all I got photos of. We had a blast and I plan to go again next year... and NO Danny can't buy another boat next year!

Fall camping and such

We went camping in Canada one weekend in September... The second morning we woke to ice on the inside of the tent...about 24* F!! BURRR.. Took me and Aubrey a long while to warm up! It felt great to sit around the camp fire reading... not worrying about dishes, laundry and all that other stuff!

More of Carson's birthday. He enjoyed going to preschool on his birthday. His teacher made him a crown that he wore all day. They also got him a baloon and he was the special helper for the day!

We did a pinata... was fun, but glad for the strong older kids, who finally tore it open!

After many days of rain, we had a fabulous sunny day. The kids and I had a picnic lunch on the beach. The fall colors are breathtaking!

We found several jelly fish that had washed up on the beach after our most recent high wind storm. Aubrey isn't afraid of picking anything up!

Carson wanted to learn to sew and so Aubrey also wanted to learn... they made bags...very simpley. I don't think they will survive a washing! Love Aubrey's belly button!

The gals that went to the Haines Junction No Snow Quilt Retreat, where it snowed for 2 of the 4 days!
At Million Dollar Falls in Yukon..
Love the colors and the snow on the mountains!

Trying to warm up at camp..

Reading by the fire... and the kids "hunting"
We took the boat out on Pine Lake... It was really clear, so fun to see what was under the water..

Love the rocks and trees..

A really cool cabin that looks accessable only by boat or float plane... My brother would love this!

Carson holdng his hand in the spray..

Long overdue...

This post is LONG overdue... we have kept busy with all the normal things and I have enjoyed looking at other folks blogs more than updating mine!
But anyway... here goes....
September was a busy month... something every weekend. The weather was FABULOUS! we went camping one weekend.. I got to go to a quilt retreat while Danny took the kids to Juneau with him to buy an new boat another weekend... and I don't remember what else we did...but it was busy! Oh yeah... picked blueberries. that was several days of driving up into the moutains. So pretty up there and I didn't get any pictures! We did get 8 gallons of blueberries. YUMMY!
September was also Carson's birthday. He started preschool also. He misses the cutoff by 16 days...so will do Kindergarten next year.
For his birthday he wanted a city cake. I made buildings and such out of candy melts and stuck them into a lemon cheesecake. He liked it though it doesn'tlook like much! there will be more picts of his birthday later...but here is the cake...

We had an average summer. not super warm but not cold...mostly in the 6o's. But the kids still loved to play in the water...
A doll quilt I made for a little friend's first birthday..

A dress made from knit from Lisa... thanks, Lisa!!

We finished painting the trim and doors...the kids helped paint the inside of the entry...

Loved Aubrey in her long legs and high heels! ha!

A quilt I finally finished and had Lisa quilt. It got a blue ribbon in the SE AK fair.. I backed it with a chocolate minkie....so super cozy now that the weather has turned cold!

We went out in the boat some... make it to Tysanka bay for a picnic supper...

Wearing my new "funked out peasant blouse" pattern by Lila Tueller with fabric from Anna Maria Horner's voile... so soft!

Aubrey following Daddy while he talked on the phone...

Supper... kelbasa with bbq sause and baked beans...

Aubrey digging in the sand...

We hiked out to Battery Point several times, this time with Linda and her company...

I had the pool on the deck again this year. They didn't play in it as much as last year...wasn't as warm... Aubrey is snuggled into a hooded towel Nana made...
When we went to Hawaii in Feb. I got a plumaria shoot and a couple habiscus shoots... my plumaria bloomed this summer!!!

Some other flowers blooming on the porch... One of the first years I've been able to have pots on the porch knowing the kids would obey and not dig the dirt out of them!

Here is the trim from last year.. and the new door color..
